I Know This Much is True Chapter 10 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • It's 1962 (which is six years before Thomas and Dominick graduate high school), and the boys are on a trip to New York's hottest attractions: the Statue of Liberty and Radio City Music Hall.
  • On the bus, Thomas accidentally (on purpose?) locks himself in the bathroom and delays the whole trip.
  • When they finally get to the Statue of Liberty, Thomas doesn't want to go up, and Dominick has to stay with him, meaning they miss out on the Crown Café.
  • Thomas tries to get all heartwarming and nostalgic, saying "This is exactly what our grandfather saw the day he first came over from Italy" (10.48), but Dominick is feeling less-than nostalgic and responds with: "Would you just shut the f*** up?" (10.49).
  • When they finally get home, Dominick tells his mom he hated the whole trip. He spent all his money, and all he has to show for it is a baseball plaque, a rubber tarantula, fake vomit, and a back scratcher that someone sat on and broke.
