- Adam is still on his journey when he sees a German Shepherd. We know he's afraid of dogs, and boy do we see that here.
- He obsesses over what he'll do when he reaches the dog. He tries to calm himself down and keep going, but when the dog bites his front tire and the bike begins to topple over, he decides that if he makes it out alive, he's turning around and going back to Monument.
- Just in the nick of time, a yellow Volkswagen passes by. It almost hits Adam, but he ends up safe as the dog runs after the car.
- Adam continues pedaling, through the small town he had seen before (Fairfield). He wants to stop to use the bathroom and get something to eat, but he's afraid the dog will follow him, so he keeps going.
