Character Analysis

Ned is "a charming fair boy." He's is a young scholar who lives off wealthy, married women in exchange for his amusing company and, occasionally, other attentions as well. When the novel begins, Ned is attached to Mrs. Carry Fisher, but he moves on to Bertha at the end of Book I, leading into their affair in Book Two.
