Character Analysis
House: Gryffindor, 3rd Year
Parvati and Lavender are Gryffindor girls in Hermione's year. Though the three of them share a room, Parvati and Lavender don't appear to be friends with Hermione at all. In fact, when we see them with Hermione, they're usually either not interacting with her at all or are upset with Hermione for annoying them – just go re-read Hermione's bad attempt at consoling a distraught Lavender with logic after Lavender's pet rabbit dies (8.2.16-22). In this novel, these two girls are notable for becoming big-time followers and fans of Professor Trelawney. The fact that they love Trelawney and her class tells us a good bit about their characters. These girls are a bit flighty and enjoy romance and mysticism. So it makes sense that they don't get along with the pragmatic and practical Hermione.
