Jolly Good Rhyme

True to Seussian form, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! rhymes jauntily throughout. Here's a snippet of the scene where the Grinch first fashions his "Santy Claus" disguise:

And he chuckled, and clucked, "What a great Grinchy trick!
"With this coat and this hat, I look just like Saint Nick!" (58-59)

We mean, how fun is that when it's rolling off your tongue?

Though all of Seuss's books are fun to read aloud, we think that the added factor of a Christmas tale, which are so often made for reading in front of a fireplace (think "Twas the Night Before Christmas"), makes this one that much more enjoyable.

The book rhymes, but not in a way that distracts from the story. It's not the silly rhymes and the tongue-twisters that make you keep reading aloud (though those help). It's the story, which is filled with charm and a character who manages to find the true meaning of Christmas by the very end, despite having been in the dark (sometimes literally—he lives in a cave for Pete's sake!) for most of his life.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is the perfect tale to read to your little one—or to have your little one read to you—during the holiday season. The flow of the book is easy and natural, with a few occasions for shouting here and there, which is always appreciated.
