Giovanni

Though David narrates events, Giovanni is the sun at the center of the story's solar system. The entire story revolves around Giovanni even more than it revolves around David. What is undeniable, by the end, is that David is in love with Giovanni. A large part of the struggle that David goes through in narrating events is simply admitting this love to himself, admitting that he is telling a love story. To an extent, of course, Giovanni is filtered through David's perspective and distorted by his love for him, but Giovanni also leaps off the page as his very own extremely distinctive character.
