Character Role Analysis

Gaston Lachaille

Gigi at first thinks of Gaston as an older brother. She enjoys him as someone who's easy to cheat in a card game, a slightly snobby but kind man who brings her caramels and licorice. Then he becomes a tour guide, showing her new sights and sounds like the Ice Palace and the beach at Trouville.

When Gigi realizes she's being seen as a possible romantic partner for Gaston, she panics. She wants to go back to that cards-and-caramels relationship, "perhaps seeing each other a little more often." Eventually, after about a bazillion back-and-forth reversals, Gaston declares his love for Gigi, and she declares her love back.
