For a three-act plot analysis, put on your screenwriter’s hat. Moviemakers know the formula well: at the end of Act One, the main character is drawn in completely to a conflict. During Act Two, she is farthest away from her goals. At the end of Act Three, the story is resolved.
Act I
Mommie Dearest
Victor creates a monster and unleashes it on—we mean, abandons it in—the world.
Act II
Frenemies
The monster is super bummed that no one understands him, so he tries to punish Victor for abandoning him. They both end up alone—except for the relationship they have with one another.
Act III
The One and Only
Victor and the monster engage in a fun little game of cat and mouse until Victor dies. Without his only companion, the monster goes off to die, too.
