How many times is Cathy described as a monster? That should tip us off that she's bad news through and through. It is kind of misogynistic that the only real female character in this novel is also the only character that is pure evil, but honestly it's hard not to love Cathy… or love to hate her, anyway. Who doesn't love a good villain? And Cathy is a great villain. Cold-blooded murderer? Check. Emotionless? Check. Deceptive and cunning? Check. Desire to destroy everyone around her just for kicks and giggles? Double check. All she needs is a cool supervillain costume.
