The Other Mother

If Coraline is a really fantastic and easy-to-spot protagonist, then the beldam (a.k.a. the evil other mother) is an equally awesome and recognizable antagonist. The beldam is totally evil. And weird. And creepy. She kidnaps kids and steals their souls, for crying out loud. She's smart too, and really challenges our hero, Coraline. In true heroic fashion, Coraline takes down the other mother. We just hope that well is deep enough, though, because the other mother definitely gives us nightmares.
