The Two Policemen in the Van

Character Analysis

These aren't really the kind of policemen you'd want to ask for help. These two camp out outside Mrs. Curren's house snooping on Bheki and John. When Mrs. Curren asks them what they're up to, they're way out of line with her. They could totally get some lessons in manners. Of course, that's not even their worst flaw. No, the worst thing they do is force Bheki and John into a bike accident that sends John to the hospital to get stitches. Mrs. Curren's interaction with the police is one of several important experiences that make her change her mind about how "just" the society she lives in actually is.
