Character Analysis
Bheki's friend, a.k.a. John, starts off as someone who really rubs Mrs. Curren the wrong way. He shows up out of nowhere and hangs out at Mrs. Curren's house without her saying it's OK for him to be there. He seems to shrug off authority and do whatever he wants to do. Mrs. Curren's relationship with John changes as the novel progresses, however.
