Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 5 reading and content, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies.
This standard challenges students to continue building their ability to identify and interpret words with unknown definitions using a wide range of skills and strategies. While students were asked to do the same exact thing in the fourth grade standard, this one asks students to apply their skills to a more complex set of vocabulary.
