Power

Power can be a double-edged sword. As a social worker, you wield unlimited power as you help clients meet their challenges and reshape their lives. You refer them to resources that may help them confront an uncomfortable and limiting personal situation. You might support them as they prepare for that first job interview or take that first college class. Your guidance often means they can move forward rather than staying mired in dysfunction.

Before you think of yourself as a social worker superhero, however, remember that every self-respecting superhero has a moral compass that steers his (or her) actions. Your moral compass reminds you to treat your clients with respect and compassion, while at the same time retaining your sense of professionalism. It's all in the Social Worker Superhero Handbook.
