It all depends on your line of work. If you become a politician, there will probably be barbecues and ticker-tape parades in your honor. If you become the communications aide to a politician, people will read your press releases, but they won't care that you, the amazing political scientist, wrote them.
Some people need the parades. Other people are happy being the power behind the throne.
