Office jobs aren't known as hotbeds of physical danger. Paper cuts, carpal tunnel syndrome, repetitive stress injury, and hot coffee burns would be typical workaday hazards for your average HR director.

But, sad to say, there are the outliers.

Remember that slightly deranged assistant manager you had to ease out of employment (a.k.a. fire) the other week? This now-ex-employee may take it upon himself to avenge this perceived injustice by taking a potshot at the person who fired him—you. A 2004 HR study has a scary stat: More than one-quarter of the workplace violence victims were HR professionals. Let's hope things have improved since then. Better living through lattes, yoga, meditation?
