Qualifications

Depending on the state, you're looking at an average of two to four years of mortuary school, plus one to two years as an apprentice if you want to be an embalmer. To get a license in most states, there are exams and dues to pay. There's also a two-part National Board exam we would highly recommend that you take. Besides that exam, you'll need a thick skin, a black suit, and a strong stomach.
