Employment in hatcheries is expected to dip a bit in the future, but there are still jobs out there in government-run hatcheries and the private sector (source). If you're in an area with established hatcheries, look out for temp work during breeding or spawning season when everyone has more fish than they can handle. Try to get any related experience you can. Help out at your local department of wildlife and game, get a job on a fishing boat or in an aquarium store, or ship off to sea as a powder monkey. Education can also substitute for hands-on experience, so if you live in the middle of the Mojave, look out for fish-related degree programs.
