Ever hear of that famous animal control officer? We haven't, either. But if you've ever had your pet rescued and returned to you, that particular officer is probably your hero for life.
On the flip side, you can bet that the people whose dog-fighting ring got busted a few years ago hate the guts of every single animal control officer within five hundred miles.
In other words, you won't get famous outside of your neighborhood, but everyone around will know what you do for a living. Some will revere you for it. Others will hate you for it. It comes with the territory.
