Description:

This video summarizes Edgar Allan Poe’s poem The Raven—in rhyme. This first-person poem follows the narrator’s descent into madness as he talks to a raven. That’s right, the raven talks back to him, increasing his distress by saying “nevermore.” And what ever happened to Lenore? Maybe if she were still around, the narrator wouldn’t have had to talk to a raven.

The Raven a la Shmoop.

00:02

Once upon a midnight breezy while I sat a little queasy Wishing I'd not eaten

00:06

that last bowl of caramel fudge galore...

00:09

Suddenly there came a flutter like the sound of melted butter Being thrown against the

00:13

shutters in a home improvement store.

00:16

Not that that's a thing that I have ever ever done before.

00:19

I just used margarine nothing more.

00:22

The midnight oil I was burning all my heart was full of yearning Yearning for

00:26

the girl I loved and maybe also for some s'mores I had the chocolate and

00:30

a fire to fulfill my hearts desire But was the quick mart open late or

00:35

did I have to wait till 4 I used to go there twice a week

00:39

to buy marshmallows by the score...

00:42

With my club card and Lenore.

00:44

That tapping noise I started finding on my last nerve now was grinding Giving me

00:48

a blinding migraine like Id never had before.

00:51

So over my bathrobe tripping bleary eyed and slippers slipping Finally the doorknob gripping I

00:56

unlocked that flipping door Yelling Hey enough already I poked my head outside the door... Garden gnomes...and nothing more.

01:01

So I turned my temper snippy wishing I could get a grippy On the throat

01:05

of that delinquent playing tricks outside my door.

01:08

All I need is peace and quiet.

01:11

A burglar system should I buy it Or would the power fry it like that

01:15

microwave I broke before Could I return another burned or would it harm my credit

01:19

score I'll ask the tech guys at the store.

01:22

So I went back to my spot my dander up my nerves all shot.

01:27

Which chapter was I on now was it this one or the one before When

01:31

from the window there began a racket so I quickly ran Faster than a cheetah

01:35

can to solve this mysterys encore.

01:38

Dont know what I was looking for; a branch a breeze or something more Perhaps

01:42

a message from Lenore But there was no ghost or letter instead a giant raven

01:46

entered Swooping in to land dead center on a piece of fine dcor.

01:50

I wasnt pleased this beast had flown its way into my tidy home And so

01:54

I grabbed the telephone to call the cops and marine corps There is a raven

01:59

in my house Please send your best men to my door The creature muttered Nevermore

02:03

As you can imagine I was shocked to hear the bird reply So I looked

02:07

it in the eye and waited to hear something more.

02:11

There was no more verbal action but he was a nice distraction Though he only

02:15

had a fraction of the brains this human wore.

02:18

Youre a clever bird I pondered Wonder where you lived before Dont you have a

02:22

collar or an owner you are looking for Growled the Raven Nevermore.

02:26

Cute I said A neato trick.

02:29

Nice timing too youre pretty slick.

02:31

Almost makes up for the roadkill Ive seen your kind eat before.

02:35

But I know your type you see all nice and friendly then you flee Like

02:39

all the buddies who ditched me when I just needed their support.

02:43

A couple crying sessions and those cowards run right for the door.

02:46

Sniffed the raven Nevermore.

02:49

Could it be that you are psychic I could use a birdie sidekick And perhaps

02:53

you'd help this guy check up a little on Lenore.

02:56

For many years we were an item and my life she sure did brighten.

03:00

Now I'm hoping you'll enlighten me bout the gal I adore.

03:04

Ive got eight balls & Ouija boards Lets go what are you waiting for...

03:08

The raven gave a little snore.

03:10

Focus bird I pleaded praying.

03:13

"From the topic you are straying.

03:15

And my patience you are fraying cough it up now tell me more...

03:19

Can't you see I'm feeling tragic Please just use your birdie magic.

03:23

You don't need no stinking badge it won't be difficult I'm sure Cmon now help

03:27

a fella out and reunite me with Lenore Squawked the raven Nevermore Seriously I shouted coldly.

03:32

Can you crush my dreams so boldly Man I bet your birdie soul is rotten

03:36

right through to its core.

03:38

Besides you jerk I'm really sad.

03:41

Lenore is dead.

03:43

I miss her bad.

03:45

And I think you're quite a cad to rub it in my face some more.

03:49

All right last chance you scruffy heathen can I speak to my Lenore Smirked the raven Nevermore.

03:54

That's it The camels back is broken.

03:56

Get out scram now no more croakin'.

03:59

Leave no feather as a token saying you were here before...

04:03

Take with you your doom and gloom Remove your buns from out my room Or

04:07

I shall take my trusty broom and make your backside really sore.

04:11

Yes I will take my broom and shove it where no broom has gone before

04:15

Wheezed the raven Nevermore That was many years ago and still the raven just wont go.

04:19

And theres more poop upon the floor than ever poop there was before His nest

04:24

ruins my feng shui he likes to sit in my parfait And hes got

04:28

this crazy gaze that burns into my very pores.

04:31

And will I ever be delivered from this roommate I deplore I know the answer....Nevermore NOTE end of file
