shmoop me nelly or nervous nellie is her friend's collar
- 00:12
Pretty much everything makes this poor girl anxious If the
- 00:15
phone rings she assumes it's a creditor or worse her
- 00:18
mother and doesn't answer it In the case of a

loud sudden noise she's been known to jump literally three
- 00:23
feet in the air even higher if she catches a
- 00:25
good breeze and don't even get her started on clowns
- 00:28
When ellie was a wee young thing it was bad
- 00:30
enough But now that she's graduated from college ready to
- 00:34
set out and conquer the world our nervousness is definitely
- 00:37
getting in the way of any conquering On her last
- 00:40
interview Out of nowhere she developed a stutter and the
- 00:42
interviewer could barely understand a word she said when they
- 00:45
shook hands Her palm was so sweaty it was like
- 00:47
shaking hands with a garden hose and when she went
- 00:49
toe hand off her resume she was unable to release
- 00:52
her vice like grip and the whole thing ended up
- 00:54
tearing in half Well all the good stuff was on
- 00:57
the top half anyway Needless to say she was going
- 00:59
To need some help if she was ever going to
- 01:01
get a real job unless she suddenly came across a
- 01:04
classified ad stating pro fused perspire er wanted so she
- 01:08
went to the town oracle Yeah apparently they've got those
- 01:11
in her area local tradition Oh oracle she says i
- 01:15
can tone down the nervousness in critical situations whatever shall
- 01:18
i d'oh Are you a smart girl The oracle asked
- 01:21
Well yeah very smart says nellie and are you good
- 01:24
at what you do Are you kidding I kick but
- 01:26
i didn't go to nine years of college for nothing
- 01:29
and you believe you'd be right for the positions you're
- 01:31
applying for I'll for sure they'd be lucky to have
- 01:34
me We'll keep those three things in mind on your
- 01:36
next interview said the oracle tonight for see you landing
- 01:39
a Job within 1 week Well nellie was doubtful but
- 01:42
she decided to give it a shot Next interview she
- 01:44
went tio when the interviewer asked her a question and
- 01:47
she was afraid of sounding stupid she reminded herself that
- 01:50
she got great grades in school and was especially perceptive
- 01:53
individual There was no way someone with her smarts was
- 01:55
Going to sound stupid when it came time to hand
- 01:58
over her resume she worried fleetingly that it wouldn't appear
- 02:01
impressive enough But then she recalled that she'd gone to
- 02:03
a good reputable school had gotten a degree in a
- 02:06
related field and had proven her dedication by working summers
- 02:09
to get her feet wet Who wouldn't be impressed by
- 02:11
all that Finally the interviewer asked nellie why she would
- 02:14
be a valuable addition to the team Well her first
- 02:17
instinct was the starts tripping over her tongue and begin
- 02:20
sweating buckets but then she thought wait a second i
- 02:23
would be a valuable addition to the team and she
- 02:26
told the interviewer exactly why and in what way she
- 02:28
would do all the butt kicking she had told the
- 02:30
oracle she would dio and lo and behold she got
- 02:33
the job It hadn't taken anything other than a shift
- 02:36
in her mind set some self reinforcement and the conscious
- 02:39
reminder of all the stuff she should feel confident about
- 02:42
After all confidence doesn't just come out of thin air
- 02:44
it's derived from the hard work you've put into something
- 02:47
and nellie had certainly put in her share of hard
- 02:49
Work She had earned that confidence and it paid off
- 02:52
Big time We'll nelly still sweats on occasion but usually
- 02:56
only when she's at the gym or at a child's 00:02:58.45 --> [endTime] birthday party
