Here’s a question for you to shmoop ‘til you’re blue in the face…
- 00:07
A triangle is formed by connecting the points A(-3, 2), B(11, 2), and C(4, 7) on the coordinate grid.
- 00:16
What is the area of the resulting triangle?
- 00:19
And here are the potential answers...
- 00:26
This question is testing our ability to, well, draw...

…and also whether we can just calculate area with some complex inputs.
- 00:34
So we should know that the formula for area of a triangle is base times height divided by 2, right?
- 00:40
If we don’t, we may want to take extreme measures to commit it to memory …
- 00:48
So draw the triangle and we have negative 3 positive 2, 11, 2 and 4, 7… there we go...
- 00:55
Here we can see that the base is given by this area – and we can count that it’s
- 00:59
14 units… and the height is 1 2 3 4 5.
- 01:03
So we just plug in the numbers to the formula and we get 14 times 5 over 2 or.. 35.
- 01:11
Answer: C.

As in, “Cubism.”
