On this day in 1861, Texas voted to secede from the Union. While it returned to the fold after the Civil War, it's been threatening to leave again ever since. States can't actually secede, though—at least not legally. So if Texas wants to fly solo, it'll have to follow the lead of Pancho Villa, William Wallace, and Miley Cyrus before it and rebel.
