Character Role Analysis

The Narrator

We’re privy only to the narrator's thoughts, and it’s clear that she’s the central figure in the story. Since we see only her conflicts and problems, she’s the character that we root for. She also undergoes more character transformations than anyone else in the story. For instance, she simultaneously goes from submissive to assertive and from sane to insane. Everyone else stays relatively constant.
