William (The Waiter)

Character Analysis

There's nothing too special about William, the waiter. He seems to be a nice guy – noticing that our narrator is absent from dinner, being polite to Grandmamma, and doing his job. But wait, doesn't his name sound familiar? Yes! That's the name of our narrator's acrobatic pet mouse. Maybe this is just a coincidence, but it definitely has the effect of making mice and humans seem a little more similar, which, as we find out, they certainly can be.
