H.J. is the OG superhero, the first one to burst upon the scene. With a black hood and noose around his neck, this giant among men is 100% pure vigilante. After WWII, Hooded Justice disappears rather than testify in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee. Is it coincidence that the body of a circus strongman, Rolf Müller, washes up around the same time? Then again, without a guaranteed ID, maybe Hooded Justice and Captain Metropolis do live happily ever after (I.25.4).
