Ewing is one of the friendlier sailors on board. He's Scottish and has a mermaid tattoo. He also has a sweetheart back home in Aberdeen whom he loves to talk about (9.3). It's Ewing's pistol (along with the round-robin) that alerts Charlotte to the mutiny.
