Travels with Charley Part 3, Chapter 4 Summary

  • Charley and Steinbeck stayed overnight in that spot and left early the next day.
  • He then describes seeing the Missouri River at Bismarck—apparently it's pretty spectacular—and driving through the Bad Lands.
  • Along the way, he asked a guy where he could get some fresh eggs, but the guy didn't know of any place nearby.
  • A bit later, he stopped at a woman's house and asked for water, and she apparently was super-eager to chat with him and appeared afraid to be alone in her own house, in Steinbeck's opinion.
  • Apparently, the Bad Lands seemed a lot prettier at sundown, and Steinbeck warmed up to the area as night fell.
