Character Analysis
When Gandhi goes to South Africa to work for a law firm, Abdulla Sheth is his contact person, his man on the ground (if this book were a spy novel). At first, Sheth finds Gandhi strange and doesn't know how much to trust him (2.7.2).
But, Abdulla Sheth decides to take Gandhi on…and even defends his wearing of a turban in court (2.7.10-14). Abdulla Sheth then sends Gandhi to Pretoria to represent him in work on an important case (2.8.2-3).
Basically, Abdulla Sheth represents Gandhi's first big boss in South Africa. He turns out to be a good contact for him and helps him on his way. We wish our first boss had been that awesome…but we were scooping ice cream and not practicing law. C'est la vie.
