Genre

Drama

There might be some solid humor sprinkled throughout this movie, but don't let that fool you. This movie is definitely all about the drama of Billy Costigan trying his best to infiltrate the Irish mob without losing his mind (or his head) in the process. Along the way, he starts and ends a brief relationship with his psychiatrist Madolyn and eventually gets shot through the head by the villain of the movie.

It might be tempting to lump this movie into the action genre because of all the killing and all the guns. But there really aren't enough explosions or nuclear warheads to call this an action flick.

You can look at it a lot of ways, but it's tough to come up with any genre other than drama to describe this thing.
