It's extremely difficult trying to figure out what every line means. Some of the images are crazy-confusing, and even Stevens’s editor at Poetry magazine couldn’t figure them out. But, if you stick to the main path and focus on the conflict between different ideas of "heaven" and "paradise," you’ll get a lot out of this poem.
