Lord Hastings

Character Analysis

Lord Hastings is yet another victim of Richard's quest for the crown. Hastings thinks he's BFFs with Richard, but when he doesn't go along with Richard's plan to snatch the crown from Edward's heir (young Prince Edward), Richard arranges the guy's funeral, if you know what we mean. The last we see of Hastings is in Act 3, Scene 5, when Lovel and Ratcliffe walk into the Tower of London...holding Hastings' head. Yikes! Hastings probably should have paid attention to Lord Stanley's prophetic dream (3.2), don't you think? Go to "Symbolism, Imagery, Allegory" for more on this.
