Character Role Analysis

Luke Skywalker

The Force may be strong in Luke, but that isn't the only reason why he's Return of the Jedi's protagonist. He's also the character who evolves the most. Luke starts the movie as a young, would-be Jedi testing his limits and beliefs. As the story zips along, he battles stormtroopers, the Emperor, his own father, and his own self-doubt. Ultimately, Luke's faith in the goodness of others doesn't just propel him to victory, it rockets him to adulthood. Luke becomes more than just a Jedi knight; he becomes a man.
