Character Role Analysis

Oedipus

Oedipus is the central figure and the tragic hero in Oedipus the King. His pursuit of knowledge and his fate shape both his own downfall and Jocasta’s. In many ways, Oedipus is a classic hero—fatal flaw and all.

We think the easiest road to take would be to call his endless determination his flaw. But since this is a little too easy, we’re going to point out that his determination is also his greatest asset, and suggest that you think twice before applying simple little labels like "tragic hero" to this guy.
