Well, we want to convert that "2" into thirds. There are three thirds in each 1, so 2 × 3 = 6 thirds of an hour. Add 2 more thirds of an hour (from the ²/₃ part of the problem) to get a total of ⁸/₃ hours. We know how valuable every ¹/₃ of an hour is to you, so hopefully your friend will understand when he learns you can't afford to lose that many of them. Besides, that's much too long for a Harold and Kumar movie.

Convert 7 ⁴/₅ into an improper fraction.

That's 7 + ⁴/₅. The whole number part gives us 7 × 5 = 35. Add 4 more fifths to get ³⁹/₅.
