Character Role Analysis

Uncle Henrik, Peter, and Annemarie's Parents

Annemarie's parents, her uncle Henrik, and her almost-brother-in-law Peter make up the book's moral center. (Talk about a selfless family!) They provide moral guidance, showing Annemarie and Ellen why it's important to stand up for what you believe in. But they also provide physical guidance: without their company from Copenhagen all the way to Sweden, Ellen's family would have never made it to safety.
