NFL: National Football League
AFL: American Football League, a competing league to the NFL in the 1960s that merged into the NFL in 1970.
AFC: American Football Conference, one of two conferences in the post-merger NFL after 1970; AFC teams mostly derived from the old AFL.
NFC: National Football Conference, one of two conferences in the post-merger NFL after 1970; NFC teams mostly derived from the old, pre-merger NFL.
APFA: American Professional Football Association, the original name for the NFL upon the league's founding in 1920; the name change to NFL occurred in 1922.
QB: quarterback
