Character Analysis
Pylades was the son of Strophius the Phocian, Orestes's foster father. He is deeply devoted to his boyhood friend, and accompanies Orestes on every step of his revenge-quest. Even though Pylades speaks only once in the entire play, his influence is decisive. Just when it looks like Orestes is wavering when confronted with his mother, Pylades tells him to obey the prophecies of the gods and kill her.
