Most stories have some sort of guide or mentor, so we have to ask ourselves why there isn't one in "Sleepy Hollow." Could it be because Ichabod has no close relationships with anyone? Who would like Ichabod enough to take him under their wing? Also, if there was a guide, Ichabod might not have gotten himself into this messy situation to begin with. And no messy situation = no story.
