Character Analysis
Judith and Rose are Julie's schoolmates in Mekoryuk. They're "Americanized Eskimos" (2.47), which means that they speak English and have modern things in their houses like a gas cooking stove and curtains. The two girls rather rudely make fun of Julie for mistaking a charm bracelet for an i'noGo tied.
Frankly, we're not sure what Julie sees in them. Even Aunt Martha thinks Judith is bad news because "She's disrespectful of her parents" (2.59) .We don't want to be seen agreeing with strict and unforgiving Martha, but we've got to admit, she has a point. We think it's best Julie steer clear of these two.
