Independence Day Scenes 26-30 Summary

Scene 26

  • Speaking of exotic dancers, now we're at Jasmine's strip club, where it's pretty empty (and the only customers are watching the news rather than the show). How rude.
  • Jasmine tries to get her colleague Tiffany to agree not to go out and join the alien fans who are eager to welcome the aliens to earth with open arms.
  • Tiffany doesn't seem convinced.

Scene 27

  • David and his dad arrive at the White House, and he gets in touch with Connie to make sure they can get in.
  • She's pretty annoyed, and there's definitely some tension between her and David, but I guess that's to be expected—how many people are happy to see their estranged husband under the best of circumstances…let alone when aliens have invaded?

Scene 28

  • Outside, a helicopter equipped with a "visual communications" apparatus takes off.
  • Inside, David and his dad enter the Oval Office, and they discuss the last time David and the President met.
  • Apparently, it, um, didn't go well.
  • That's an understatement: it ended in a fistfight because David thought the Prez and Connie were having an affair. Yeah. David punched the president. That's serious drama—no matter Connie's nervous about having David around.
  • The President leaves his meeting, where they were watching the Welcome Wagon's progress, to join David, Julius, and Connie in the Oval.
  • The President is not happy to see David, shockingly enough.
  • However, he lets David explain why their satellites have been disrupted. Turns out, the aliens are using the U.S.'s satellites against them to communicate.
  • Dum, dum, dummm.

Scene 29

  • Meanwhile, "Welcome Wagon" is approaching the ship and starting to flash. Uh oh. If the aliens are up to no good, is this really a good idea?
  • Nope, it's not—and the President runs into the room to order the immediate evacuation of the cities and the return of the "Welcome Wagon."
  • As he does that, the alien ship starts to open up. Whoops—looks like he's too late. The ship fires on the helicopter. Yeah, that's not exactly a "we come in peace" move.
  • The President leaves the White House with David, Connie, Julius, etc.
  • In California, the First Lady is finally on the move, and Jasmine is stuck in traffic. We thought things were tense before, but this is so much worse.
  • Jasmine's friend Tiffany joins a rooftop alien party, despite promising Jasmine she wouldn't.
  • We jump around among the other characters as they try to evacuate from their various locales.
  • Thanks to David, we know the clock is ticking down and close to running out, so we're hoping they al make it out.
  • Finally, the spaceships over the cities open. Some people watch; others flee. Why aren't you fleeing, non-flee-ers?
  • The President and his posse board Air Force One. Let's hope that thing flies fast.
  • The timer David has been using to track the signal counts down to zero. Here we go.
  • Around the world, the ships fire on the cities below. Naturally, (even more) chaos ensues.
  • Sadly, David's colleague Marty, who's stuck in traffic, seems to get caught in a wave of fire sweeping the streets of New York. #RIPMarty
  • Air Force One is barely able to get off the ground in time, but they manage—phew.
  • Stuck in traffic as the explosions start, Jasmine realizes she and her son have to run on foot.
  • She makes it to a safe place just as the fireball passes through the tunnel with her car. Phew again.

Scene 30

  • It's July 3 now, and several cities are in ruin. Things are pretty eerie and quiet in New York City, where the Statue of Liberty is on her side.
  • It looks like the entire population of the island has been wiped out.
  • Leaping over to the West Coast, Russell's family is on the road. They stop because one of the kids, Troy, is sick.
  • On Air Force One, the President is feeling guilty for not evacuating the cities sooner. Then a military dude comes in and announces that the First Lady's helicopter never made it to Nellis.
  • Which probably ramps up the President's regrets 1000%.
