Horton Hears a Who! Lines 1-29 Summary

A Speck of Dust

One fine day in May (the fifteenth, to be exact), Horton the elephant is taking a bath when he hears a little voice calling for help. He asks who's there, but he can see nothing but a little speck of dust. Hmm, curious.

  • He decides that there must be someone on that little speck of dust. You know, someone too small to see.
  • Then he starts to get worried that the person is afraid that he'll blow into the pool. No worries—Horton to the rescue!
  • Horton picks up the speck of dust and puts it down on a soft little clover. He's feeling quite proud when a kangaroo comes around and tells him that there is no way that there's a person on that little speck.
  • Whoa there, Kangy.
