A Somber Anniversary
- Hello, everyone—notably the Clintons and Ambassador Holbrooke.
- Forty-five years ago, a boy woke up in Buchenwald after the Americans had liberated him.
- The boy in question? Elie Wiesel.
- American soldiers were angry at what they saw, and the boy will always be grateful for their rage, their compassion, and the knowledge that they'd never forget the sight of all the people in the camp.
- Now, years later, the boy is grateful for the American people. He's also grateful to President Clinton, commander in chief of the army who freed him, and to Mrs. Clinton, for her work with children, the homeless, and victims of injustice around the world.
