Chinese Exclusion Act: Section 3: Chinese People Already in the Country Summary

Good News, Chinese People and Ship Captains: You Don't Necessarily Have to Leave.

  • Any Chinese people already in the country before ninety days after the act gets signed into law can stay, but they need to have evidence they were here.
  • A ship captain forced to land in an American port because of hurricanes, typhoons, or sharknadoes, won't get penalized by the act, as long as he takes whatever Chinese laborers he brought with him.
