The Odyssey

The Odyssey

Homer's Odyssey is one of the greatest works of literature ever written. It tells the story of the famous Greek hero Odysseus and his ten-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Along the way, Odysseus encounters countless hurdles and obstacles including sirens, monsters, violent storms, amnesia, Cyclopses, dangerous sorceresses, and more. You could argue that both heroes' stories end with them returning home: Odysseus finally makes it to Ithaca, and Heracles ends up on Mount Olympus with his dad, the place where he seems to belong. Along the way, both heroes battle some monsters, fall in love with different kinds of women, and are both aided and tormented by the gods.
