Jesus might have had humble beginnings, but he went on to become a pretty big deal. Other New Testament books play up Jesus' lowly origins more, but the author of Hebrews is pretty big on the power and the glory part. According to this book, from the beginning of time, Jesus was there, hanging with God and the angels, plotting to be the Savior of the universe. Sure, he became human and was crucified as a criminal, but that was all part of his plan to save the world.
All in all, not bad for a kid from Galilee.
Questions About Power
- Why do you think the author emphasizes Jesus' glory and majesty more than his human life?
- Is Jesus on the same level as God in this letter? Do you think the author is saying that Jesus and God are of the same "nature"?
- Why is it so important that Jesus be way more awesome than any human being who ever lived? Even Moses?
