Hulga imagines trying to seduce Manley, and his box of condoms implies that he wants to have sex with Hulga. They kiss several times, but when Manley refuses to give Hulga back her leg, the spell of romance is broken and the date comes to an abrupt halt. There's no actual or implied sex in the story, but there's a darkness and sexual maturity at work anyway.
