The final moment of this book, an exchange between Rachel and her mother as they watch Nick and Peik Lin bicker about where to find the best food, signifies a level of acceptance on Rachel's part: "Rachel rolled her eyes and smiled. 'Let them be, Mom. Let them be. This is just how they all are'" (3. 20.117).
Merely five chapters before this Rachel says she can't take these people anymore, but something has shifted (perhaps it's her dreamboat's attempts to win back her heart) and she indicates she can accept "these people" for being themselves: crazy, rich, and Asian.
What this ending also indicates is a sequel…
