Character Role Analysis

Merlin

Merlin starts out bad by trying to have Hank executed, and he just gets worse and worse as the book goes along, using all kinds of sneaky tricks designed to foul Hank up. None of them work of course, and Merlin has to pretend to get along with Hank after his schemes fail… making him more frenemy than enemy sometimes. He gets the last laugh, however, when he sends Hank back to the 19th century. He's also a big jerk about it, just to make sure we understand whose side we're on.
