• Burghers (citizens of towns) arise from the serfs and become increasingly successful merchants.
• This bourgeoisie rises above the aristocracy and becomes the most powerful class.
• The bourgeoisie oppress the proletariat—but individual members ally themselves with the individual members of the proletariat when fighting other members of the bourgeoisie for supremacy.
• Eventually the bourgeoisie is overthrown by the workers, who use the training given to them by the bourgeoisie.
